Nursing Home Abuse Under Reported

Posted on November 11th, 2009 1 Comment

It is an unfortunate fact that many cases of nursing home abuse go unreported. The abuse can go unreported because of a variety of reasons. Many individuals in nursing home care may be scared or afraid to speak out. Many cases of abuse include intimidation and threat of punishment if the victim speaks out. Other reasons much abuse goes unreported is because of the lack of investigative abilities. Funding for government officials to investigate nursing homes is low which has been a reason that many cases have never been exposed.

It is important that if nursing home abuse is occurring, that it is reported immediately. This is important to protect the individual currently being abused, as well as prevent future abuse from happening.

It’s really sad to think that not only are the elderly being abused, but they are not getting any help in many cases.
