Kentucky officials propose new nursing home death reporting techniques

Posted on Wednesday, December 1st, 2010 at 3:20 pm

A Kentucky state lawmaker has proposed new legislation that will require all deaths to be reported to the county coroner. This new legislation will only count for those facilities that offer long term care.

The current law does not require most deaths to be reported. Coroners are then required to tell prosecutors if they feel that their has been maltreatment in the case. This new measure also strengthens the criminal penalty if abuse is failed to be reported. Specific training for nursing home staff is will also be called for.
