Workers injured when roof collapses

Posted on Thursday, January 19th, 2012 at 11:57 pm

Five New Jersey construction workers were injured when the roof of a convenience store they were building in Ocean County collapsed on them.

The workers were hospitalized and said to be in stable condition soon afterwards. Their injuries range from constant chest pain to broken bones. Some of the workers were reported to be out of work indefinitely.

A federal investigation is underway to determine what could have caused the roof to collapse. A spokesperson for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration told the press that the administration believes the accident could have been caused by the roof trusses giving way.
