The 94-year-old woman who was assaulted at a convalescent home in Santa Clarita, Calif., received $12.5 million in damages by a jury today. The man who assaulted her was sentenced to eight years in prison. He was an illegal immigrant who worked as a dietary aid for the facility, authorities said, and he admitted to drinking on the job.

A nursing home aide working in Lufkin, Texas has been sentenced to 20 months in prison for repeated abuse of an elderly stroke victim in her care.
