The 94-year-old woman who was assaulted at a convalescent home in Santa Clarita, Calif., received $12.5 million in damages by a jury today. The man who assaulted her was sentenced to eight years in prison. He was an illegal immigrant who worked as a dietary aid for the facility, authorities said, and he admitted to drinking on the job.
The facility’s corporation was also sued for falsifying employment documents and providing the man with unauthorized access to people’s rooms.

A 98-year-old nursing home resident in Massachusetts has been indicted for the murder of her 100-year-old roommate, according to CNN. A nursing home aide working in Lufkin, Texas has been sentenced to 20 months in prison for repeated abuse of an elderly stroke victim in her care.
