The Governor of Kentucky has created a task force that will review nursing home abuse cases in the state.

One of the first steps of the task force will be a look into how the government handles reports of nursing home abuse and neglect. A previous report was sent to the local newspaper and stated that there were 107 Class A citations claiming that a resident was in harm of becoming injured or worse.

Seven of the cases were prosecuted at the state level. Eight of them were under review from the prosecutor or attorney general, but the average pending time for a case was 19 months.

Following last week’s expose by the Chicago Tribune, Illinois legislators are working to find ways to curb the epidemic of nursing home abuse in the state. If a senior citizen in your family is the victim of neglect, the nursing home abuse lawyers of Levinson Axelrod can help you fight to restore their dignity.

State senators believe that the nursing homes could be perpetrating civil rights abuses, because nursing homes caring for black patients provide a lower level of care than those caring for white patients. They hope to introduce legislation to correct the problem.
